Mumia is innocent and was framed! 35 in prison is 35 years too long!
On April 24, Mumia Abu-Jamal’s birthday, there will be a court hearing on his PCRA (Post-Conviction Relief Act) petition in Pennsylvania courts. This is an action to overturn all of the PA Supreme Court decisions from 1995-2008 that denied him freedom despite the evidence that the police and prosecution manufactured the “proof” of his guilt and suppressed evidence of his innocence.
This latest legal challenge is based on the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Williams case, which ruled that an appellate judge cannot participate in a case in which he formerly had a personal role in a significant prosecutorial decision. Ronald Castille was the District Attorney responsible for opposing Mumia’s 1989 appeal of his trial conviction and death sentence. Then, after being elected to PA Supreme Court in 1994, Castille ruled against Mumia in every appeal brought before him critical of the actions of his former DA’s office. Castille ran for election to the PA Supreme Court bragging that 45 men (including Abu-Jamal) were sentenced to death by his DA’s office and that he was financed by and had been honored by the FOP as “Man of the Year.”
